Prevalence of Breast Disease among Palestinian women, 1994-1996. |
PFS started mammography screening in 1990. Until then, health professionals
and researchers in
Palestine had no indicators about breast disease. The Society
maintains a comprehensive data base and realized the need
to publish statistics which could provide basic information
about demographic features of women attending for mammography,
their reasons for undergoing mammography examinations, their
mammography results. This study n = 1199, reviewing three years
of data was published in 1999.
 |
National Guidelines for Breast Cancer Screening (1999). |
The Society was approached by the Palestinian Ministry of Health
to research and write these guidelines. This publication
has been reviewed by professionals and distributed throughout
the West
Bank and Gaza Strip.
 |
Breast Cancer Screening - A Practical Guide for Primary Health Care
Physicians (1999). |
The Palestinian Ministry of Health commissioned the PFS
Jerusalem to design a training program about breast disease
and breast cancer screening for primary care physicians in the
governmental and non-governmental sectors. This publication
discusses anatomy, the differential diagnosis, screening modalities,
referral mechanisms.
 |
Mammography Techniques for X-Ray Technologists (1999). |
The Palestinian Ministry of Health identified women to work as mammography
technicians and commissioned PFS
Jerusalem to train these women in different hospitals and in
our clinic. This book was written by an X-ray technician and
peer reviewed.
 |
The
demographic characteristics and self reported symptoms and
behaviours of mid life Palestinian women (2000). |
PFS embarked on addressing the needs of the midlife woman by providing
lectures and screening examinations. To prepare for this task
however it was important to conduct a small study, N =49 of
women from
Jerusalem and Bethlehem. This study was financed by the
South African Representative Office, Ramallah.

In addition, we regularly
publish public health leaflets. Each leaflet is produced, pre-tested,
and published by Patient's Friends Society. They are designed
to inform and answer questions for the general public. We distribute
leaflets at all our lectures in the community in addition to hospitals,
clinics and workshops.
The listing below shows the
different leaflets (in Arabic) we distribute. The subject matter
largely depends on the demand of the public and the health professionals.
